Probably, what will make you go far in life
is what
you know and the people you know, and then what you have and how you
conduct yourself. These things contribute greatly to the kind of opportunity
you will get. Opportunity is the chance you get to do something. If you have much
material possessions, or skill, talent or certificate, these capitals can be
almost useless unless you have opportunity to use them. For example, to convert them to wealth,
especially financial wealth --- a more liquid form of wealth that has many
uses. So it is important that we consider ways that opportunity comes so that
we can pursue surer ways to putting our capitals to work to create more wealth.
The most direct way to seek opportunity is by marketing and advertising.
After you have done everything humanly
possible regarding acquisition of capitals, marketing and advertising, and
exhibiting good conduct, there is yet another force that brings opportunity.
But this one is beyond our control or design. Call it God, fate, luck, fortune,
coincidence, providence, destiny, chance, or accident, there is the unseen
force that is also attributive to the opportunities that we encounter. But i attribute
mine to God, in line with the adage which says “always do your best and leave
the rest to God”.
You can choose the training that you wish
to receive or the skill you wish to acquire, you can also choose how you want
to spend your financial resources, but it is certainly beyond your design or control
who you will come in contact with during your training or practice. By
coincidence, providence, luck, chance, accident, fate, or destiny, you can meet
or contact the right people at the right time through whom you may be linked to
opportunities that can exert profound impact on your life. Although no one can
guaranty you of meeting such opportunities, but one fact is critical: the more skillful you are and the more people you know, the more you are likely to
encounter opportunity. Luck shines on those who are prepared. Luck, they say, is what happens when preparedness meets opportunity. So get
prepared, acquire the productive resources or capitals you can while you can
(preferably early in life), market and advertise your capitals, show good
character, while also praying for God to play His part in bringing you
opportunity.
Opportunity also comes based on the value that people attach to your service at any point in time. Events or situations may cause people to attach more or less importance to your service. For example, in a vibrant economy where people easily make money, they can enjoy a higher standard of living as they can afford luxury goods and services. They are also capable of carrying out capital projects. But during an economic downturn when money is hard to come by, people tend to go mainly for basic necessities, and this affects negatively the opportunities available in the luxury goods and capital project markets. This gives rise to a situation whereby there are many people with marketable skills but no opportunities (or employments) to absorb them.
